Behind the Scenes: Sea View
INTRODUCTION
Whats up!
I’m Emmanuel Lorant, a 3D artist from France.
I went to 3D because of Blender in 2012 with the introduction of the two.6 model. I wished to study one thing new, Blender was free, and as I used to be by no means excellent at drawing, I believed that I might create some nice, or a minimum of higher, photos than my drawings with a 3D software program.
I dug as many tutorials as I might on Youtube and tried every thing doable in Blender, from modeling and texturing to digital camera monitoring, and VFX.
Some occasions in my life made me suppose I’ve to make a residing from one thing I really like (I used to be a stay-at-home dad) and so, I began as a contract 3D artist in 2018. I’m educating Blender too for some firms in France.
INSPIRATION
I reside in France, in Provence at Marseille, and we’re surrounded by cliffs named “Calanques”. I began from an image of those cliffs and I want to make one thing extra colourful.
I centered on recreating the temper and have one thing visually interesting.
PROCESS
I solely labored with Blender and its compositor.
It’s uncommon for me to work by “simply” placing items collectively. I feel it’s the primary time I didn’t mannequin something for work.
Setting
I began by including a big circle of 15 km of diameter. I observed {that a} circle works higher than a aircraft for the horizon. I extruded the circle so as to add some depth and added a fabric which is a mix of two noise textures and a Principled BSDF and a Principled Quantity BSDF.
Belongings
Subsequent, I added a pine tree from the Forestation add-on that I put on the left aspect of the picture. I duplicated it, positioned it on the appropriate, and lower it in Edit mode to have the form I wished.
For the bushes on the backside, I used 2 bushes from Vegetation add-on as I would like much less particulars than the bushes on the perimeters.
These bushes give some sort of pure vignette impact as they encompass the boat.
I added a cliff known as the Grand Canyon from the Mountain Scapes add-on. I attempted different cliffs and with recommendation on BA boards, I went to the Grand Canyon on the finish. We discover these sorts of cliffs in Provence. A bit much less crimson however sort of.
I added the boat which I’ve in my asset library. The supplies have been previous so I did a rework on them to attain what I would like. I then added 2 characters to liven up it.
Lighting
For the lighting, I used an HDRi from PolyHaven known as “lonely_road_afternoon_puresky”. I pushed the saturation to 2.000 to have one thing extra colourful and hotter. I modified the orientation to provide extra attention-grabbing mild to the bushes.
As soon as every thing was in place, I added a giant dice round parts so as to add volumetrics. I put the density of the Volumetrics shader very low : 0.0001.
Publish-processing
I used Quick Compo so as to add some vignette, lens distortion, and a little bit little bit of coloration correction to make the ultimate contact.
I began from this and due to recommendation on Blender Artists discussion board, I ended with my ultimate picture.
